Advent 13- Living Water

December 9
Read: Exodus 17:1– 7; Deuteronomy 31: 30 – 32:4; John 4:13, 14;
1 Corinthians 10:4; Revelation 7:16, 17
For people living in a desert, a continuous source of water is a promise of continuing life. God promises such life to His faithful people. We who live in the spiritual desert of sin find in Christ our living rock and source of living water. In Christ we need never thirst for God again.
The second verse of the hymn ‘Glorious Things of You are Spoken’ sings of ‘streams of living waters springing from eternal love.’

Glorious things of you are spoken, Zion, city of our God;
He whose word cannot be broken Formed you for His own abode,
On the Rock of Ages founded, What can shake your sure repose?
With salvation’s walls surrounded, You may smile at all your foes.
See, the streams of living waters, Springing from eternal love,
Well supply your sons and daughters And all fear of want remove.
Who can faint while such a river Ever will their thirst assuage?
Grace, which like the Lord, the giver, Never fails from age to age.
Round each habitation hov’ring, See the cloud and fire appear
For a glory and a cov’ring, showing that the Lord is near.
Thus deriving from their banner Light by night and shade by day,
Safe they feed upon the manna Which God gives them on their way.
Savior, since of Zion’s city I through grace a member am,
Let the world deride or pity, I will glory in Your name.
Fading are the world’s vain pleasures, All their boasted pomp and show
Solid joys and lasting treasures None but Zion’s children know.

For the Family:
The symbol, a stream of water rising out of a rock ties together the spiritual rock of salvation that is the bedrock of our lives with the living water that maintains life eternal. Hang this symbol on your Tree of Promise and give thanks for the living water of love.

Advent 13- Bible Journaling
Living Water
Exodus 17:1-7
Connie Denninger

From the Kitchen:
Key Lime Melt Aways
12 TBS softened butter
1 C powdered sugar
Zest 4 tiny or 2 large limes
2 TBS fresh lime juice
1 TBS vanilla
1 ¾ C + 2 TBS flour
2 TBS cornstarch
¼ tsp salt
  • Cream butter and 1/3 C sugar, and lime juice, zest, and vanilla, beat until fluffy
  • Sift flour, cornstarch, and salt together. Add to creamed butter and beat on low speed until combined
  • Form dough into 2 12” logs and wrap each log in parchment paper. (work the dough into the logs on parchment) chill for at least 2 hours. Can freeze dough at this point.
  • Pre-heat oven to 350
  • Remove parchment from 1 log and slice into 30 slices @ ¼” thick. Place rounds on parchment covered sheet about 2” apart.
  • Bake until barely golden (about 15 minutes). Transfer to wire rack and let cool for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • While still warm, place in paper bag with the reserved sugar. Toss to coat.
  • Repeat with 2nd log.

I found these on the internet. Love the flavor but have to tell you, the powdered sugar will show on anything you wear.
At one time I was toying with the idea of an assortment of cookies that were all based in citrus flavors (as opposed to a box of citrus fruit.) These leave your mouth cool and refreshed, very much like a fresh glass of water.
