Advent 21- Price Paid

December 17
Read Genesis 22:1–14, John 3:16, and Romans 8:32
We wait, sometimes impatiently, sometimes anxiously, sometimes in fear, for Christmas. Recent pains or current struggles make us resistant to joy and we ask, as Isaac did, ‘Where is the sacrifice?’ Where is the promised peace and joy?
‘The Lamb, The Lamb’, a newer hymn by Gerald Coleman, reminds us that salvation is
 ‘a done deal.’ Christ came. Christ is the all sufficient sacrifice. Here is our joy. An alternate hymn choice for those who do not have either source book is “O Perfect Life of Love.”

O perfect life of love! All, all is finished now,
All that He left His throne above To do for us below.
No work is left undone Of all the Father willed;
His toil, His sorrows, one by one, The Scriptures have fulfilled.
No pain that we can share But He has felt its smart;
All forms of human grief and care Have pierced that tender heart.
And on His thorn-crowned head And on His sinless soul
Our sins in all their guilt were laid That He might make us whole.
In perfect love He dies; For me He dies, for me.
O all atoning Sacrifice, I cling by faith to Thee.
In ev’ry time of need, Before the judgement throne,
Thy work, O Lamb of God, I’ll plead, Thy merits, not mine own.
Yet work, O Lord, in me As Thou for me hast wrought;
And let my love the answer be To grace Thy love has brought.

For the family:
A ram caught in the bush is the symbol that reminds us that we need not fear God’s wrath. Christ has paid the price. God’s promise of heaven is sure. Hang this symbol on your Tree of Promise and cry to God, sharing your public and private pain with Him. Know that you are His alone and none can take you from Him.

A Christmas Card image works
 well to add the ram image on the back
 and use the card as a "tip-in".

From the Kitchen:
Lemon Spritz
 Dora Pfitzer Meyermann- Mother of Natalie Hartwig
1 C shortening
¾ C sugar
1 egg
1 tsp lemon extract or vanilla
2 ½ C sifted flour
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder
  • Cream the shortening, gradually add sugar and cream well.
  • Beat in egg and extract.
  • Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together
  • Gradually add flour mix
  • Fill cookie press,
  • Decorate cookies with sprinkles as desired
  • Bake at 375 for 7 – 10 minutes
Another “cookie press” cookie. With its light citrus flavor this one often showed up without any sprinkles at spring time celebrations. I prefer this cookie to the chocolate spritz cookie but noticed that the chocolate ones always disappeared faster, so perhaps that was just a personal choice on my part.
I wonder if you could use strawberry extract and a few drops of red food coloring instead of lemon extract and get a pink, strawberry flavored cookie?
