Ascension Day to Pentecost

Saturday. Ascension plus 9

Read Daniel 6:16 – 23

Psalm 46

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Why are you standing around?

Of course you’re scared. Who wouldn’t be. There’s a world out there full of opportunities for failure. Unbelievers will laugh. The worldly wise will mock you. The devil prowls around you like a wild beast and you can’t see Daniel’s angel shutting the lion’s jaws.

So why not put on that armor of faith, seize the Gospel sword, and open your eyes. It is worth it you know. The joy of seeing even just one hear the word of truth is great. Beyond that, you have the promise that God’s word will bear fruit. Granted, you may not be there to see it, but God’s words and promises are sure. So plant away. Faith working is the job of the Spirit, the Spirit of wisdom and truth, the Comforter, the Almighty God. How dare you deny the power of God.

Have courage, God is with you.

Be still my soul, the Lord is on thy side. Amen

Sing Martin H. Franzmann’s hymn, “Preach You the Word” (LSB 586, CW 544) and know that in your heart and hands and life reposes that precious seed of God’s Word, just waiting to be scattered abroad.

Alternate Hymn: Sing Johnathan F. Bahnmaier’s hymn, “Spread, Oh, Spread, Almighty Word” (LBW 379, ELW 663)
