Bible Journaling- All in the Family

Lucie- Visual faith Illustrator

Sometimes I learn of a story
that just makes connections.

 Here is some encouragement
about a young mom
sharing visual faith tools
 with her daughters.

Brooke Orozco recently attended a retreat
 in the Michigan District
where she served as the worship leader.
Pat Maier, wife of Michigan District President,
Dave Maier,
taught an introduction to Visual Prayer
and Bible Journaling.
Here is what Brooke shared after the retreat:

"I got home today
and told my girls (9 and 12yrs)
about the visual faith things.
I showed them some of my doodles
 I'd done throughout the weekend
and showed them a few ideas.
They didn't waste anytime...
"This photo is my 12 year old's first response,
using her water color paints.
She has since been staying in from recess
with some of her friends and teaching them
what little she knows.
She is in 6th grade
at the local public school.
She is using Scripture:
the girls are hearing God's Word
and making art with it.
 Isn't that just great?
Children are so Outreach-driven,
aren't they?
It seems sometimes that we adults feel
 like we need to plan,
get a committee or a board
and then inch out to share the gospel.
But she just started doing this
 as a natural thing
because she was excited about it,
and she does not feel any shame
for the Word of God or the Gospel."
This photo is my 9 yr old's.
She turned some washi tape
 and a Subway wrapper
into a collage. Then she wrote,
"God wants us to bear fruit
fresher than Subway"...
  Good stuff!! Love it."
The "Subway Project" by Karolein

"We lovingly refer to the "Subway Project"
as Karolein's first response
to what she learned about Visual Faith.
It may be seem a bit raw,
with lots of scribbles and doodles.
It may not seem to connect.
But it shows a large outpouring of creativity."

So what can we learn from the children?
1. Do away with the rules.
2. Let the Joy of the experience guide your response.
3. Don't be afraid to TRY.
4. Tell others- it just might be their doorway to Jesus.
5.  A Visual Faith response doesn't need to make sense to everyone.

Thanks to Pat and Brooke
for sharing "the after story" and the photos.
