Celebrate What God is Doing!
Celebrate What God is Doing!
-
Two Northern Virginia schools and a DC
high school have expressed interest in the
after-school program.
-
Marlon and Deborah started a young adults
group that is meeting in at the Whole Foods
in Fairfax. The group is being equipped to
reach out to other millenials.
-
Rev. Mike Middaugh, pastor at Calvary, Silver
Spring, met with Marlon and Deborah and a
teacher from Cordozo High School in North-
west DC to explore possibilities for the after
school program. Prayer walks are planned in
April for in a neighborhood across the street
from the high school.
-
Marlon continues to lead a Bible study for
college students at UMD, College Park, and
to mentor young men at the Fairfax County
Juvenile Detention Center. One of the young
men has made a major turn around in his life
and is now attending church services ever
since Marlon bought him a Bible and journal.
Grant Awards to LINC-DC
Top $15,000
The Circuit 9 Endowment Fund recently awarded LINC-DC a $6000 two-year grant to fund the after-school programs now being organized by Marlon and Deborah Yearwood.
Judy Koucky, a member of St. Paul’s, Falls Church, presented the check to the Yearwoods recently on behalf of the Circuit 9 Endowment Fund Board of Directors.
The Circuit 9 Endowment Fund grant, along with a generous gift from St.John’s, Franconia, enabled
LINC-DC to receive the full $5,000 award from the
Thrivent “Lutheran Community Matthew 25: Neighbors in Need” challenge grant. The Thrivent funding was awarded based on LINC-DC’s “effectiveness in addressing physical, emotional and /or spiritual needs in the local community such as food, clothing, shelter, fellowship, and care for the sick based on Jesus’ words in Matthew 25: 35-36.”
Thrivent also supplied funding for the February 1 Women’s event in Silver Spring, and has expressed interest in funding another similar event in the near future.
